Hemp terpenes
We are experts at blending terpenes to enhance existing CBD products or to develop functional health supplements.
Terpenes
Maximise the entourage effect and bioavailability
Terpenes give Cannabis its unique smell. These compounds have a very active pharmacology, and are known to influence cell activity at very low serum concentrations. Terpenes are responsible for the physical effects of aromatherapy, and have strong antimicrobial properties.
Many terpenes have demonstrated therapeutic properties such as anti-inflammatory, analgesic (pain-relieving), and anti-anxiety effects. Some terpenes have also shown potential for treating conditions such as insomnia, depression, and bacterial infections.
This refers to the synergistic interaction between terpenes and other compounds in cannabis, such as cannabinoids (e.g., THC, CBD). This interaction is thought to enhance the overall therapeutic effects of the plant, such as pain relief, mood enhancement, or anxiety reduction.
Some terpenes can improve the bioavailability of other substances, including cannabinoids. For instance, they can alter the speed of metabolization in the liver, or affect the permeability of the blood-brain barrier, allowing more of the substances to reach the brain and exert their effects.
Scientific Research
Terpenes are at the forefront of cannabis science, and the right terpene mix can make the difference between a successful or unsuccessful treatment. Presence of terpenes can also influence how much cannabinoids are needed to achieve a certain effect. Lower doses of cannabinoids with certain terpenes present can achieve the same effect as much higher doses of only cannabinoids.
To make things more complicated, some terpenes are also cannabinoids, as they show some affinity binding to receptor sites directly. Most terpenes have a modulating effect, but do not bind to the CB1 or CB2 receptors.

Terpene Extraction Methods
Hemp terpenes can be extracted using water vapour. The structure of terpenes is very different than that of cannabinoids. Terpenes are classified according to their molecular size: monoterpenes, sesquiterpenes and diterpenes.

Terpene blending
How To Safely Handle and Blend Terpenes?
Since terpenes are highly volatile, they can be dangerous to people and animals when highly concentrated. Terpenes need to be handled with care, and can only be transported in suitable containers.
Different types of terpenes vary in volatility, with some categories more volatile than others and possibly lost in any final medicinal or food supplement product. For instance, monoterpenes such as limonene or menthol are more prone to denaturation and dispersion when heated compared to the more heat-resistant sesquiterpenes.
You need proper safety equipment for your own protection.
Once you have opened a container, you should ideally add nitrogen gas to the container before sealing it again. This will replace the oxygen, preventing further degradation of your terpenes by oxidation
We have found the sweet spot for blending terpenes is between 0.1% and 1% terpenes for an oil based blend. You will need to experiment so that you don’t overpower your blend. Sometimes less is more.
Terpene Blending Instructions
While handling terpenes, it is always recommended to operate in a ventilated room while wearing gloves, eye protection, closed shoes and a lab coat.
Unscrew the terpene bottle’s cap and carefully open the clear plastic seal by slowly lifting it up from around the sides.
If your extract has high viscosity and heating is required, we recommend heating the extract prior to the terpene infusion to prevent evaporation of terpenes. As soon as the extract exhibits the desired viscosity, the infusion of terpenes may begin.
Calculate the exact terpenes to be infused in the extract by using either an analytical weight or graduated cylinder.
Dilution recommendations for various applications:
- THC/CBD Vape Cartridge: 0.3 – 3%
- E-Liquid: 0.5 – 3.0%
- Tincture: 0.1 – 1.0%
Mix terpenes in extract by utilising a magnetic stirrer or manually without any heat. If heat is necessary for viscosity control purposes, use low heat of no more than 60 degrees Celsius.
For the best results and flavour, let the mixture steep for at least 12 hours before using it.
When closing the terpene bottle, it is best to reseal the bottle with nitrogen gas by inserting the nitrogen pipe into the bottle and let the nitrogen gas flow inside for about 10 seconds. Then, quickly remove the pipe and close the bottle with the cap.
Store the terpene bottle in a cool shaded place. For prolonged shelf life, keep the bottle refrigerated at 4 degrees Celsius at its upright position. remove the pipe and close the bottle with the cap. This is the most efficient way to prevent oxidation and preserve terpenes’ freshness for subsequent use.

The Entourage Effect
Dr Ethan Russo’s Terpology®
The Entourage Effect is a principle by which cannabis compounds synchronise to modulate and maximise the impact of cannabinoids together with terpenes on the human condition.
Dr Russo has developed proprietary effects blends. These are also available in our back catalogue.
Terpenes can bring about physiological changes in the body. In the seminal paper ‘Taming THC: potential cannabis synergy and phytocannabinoid-terpenoid entourage effects’ author Dr Ethan Russo describes how “terpenoid components in concentrations above 0.05% are considered of pharmacological interest,” and how “mice exposed to terpenoid odours inhaled from ambient air for 1 h demonstrated profound effects on activity levels, suggesting a direct pharmacological effect on the brain, even at extremely low serum concentrations.”
Israel
Eybna
Eybna integrates scientific research findings into their product development. They currently have 11 ongoing research projects with Israeli academic institutes to learn more about the different components that make up the complex smell of phenotypes and to learn about the full medicinal potential of cannabis. The interim findings allow them to develop “higher-resolution” terpene products.
We offer their full range of terpenes blends plus specific functional blends, focussed on sleep, relaxation, pain relief etc.
These can be used in formulating your custom products with us.
Frequently Asked Questions
When a full spectrum CBD extract is winterized and purified, some of the THC is removed and also some of the acidic cannabinoids decarboxylate. It still retains a lot of cannabinoids and terpenes but it’s not technically a full spectrum extract. We call this a broad-spectrum extract.
We offer both traditional gelatin and vegan gummies at different CBD strengths. We are happy to send you a sample so you taste them and check the quality before placing an order.
For orders over 5,000 units, we can develop gummies with any additives you require. Please be aware that this may incur some product development costs to ensure your additive blends well and is also stable.
White label is when you use one of our pre-existing tried and tested products. We provide the label & packaging templates and you provide the design. You will receive a finished product that has your logo and branding on it. This gives you quick entry to market with minimal investment.
Private label allows you more creativity. You may choose to have a custom blend that is uniquely formulated for you with other added ingredients or flavours. Private label can also give you more flexibility regarding the label design and outer packaging. For private label you can use different containers and bottles, and have custom made outer packaging with various print embellishments.
